Citrusy Warmth

Winter has New England firmly in it’s grasp so here at Local Root we’re thinking longingly of warm days and cool eats. The heavy winter food is starting to drag and nothing is more welcome than the the seasonal bright citrus popping up on shelves and food blogs. So we thought we’d jump on the band wagon and plumb our depths for some delicious citrus bright flavors to share.

These naval and moro oranges are simply stunning and lend themselves so well to anything you want to add them to. Performing this simple prep to create orange wheels is a cinch. We’ve featured them here in a Duralex bowl ready to be topped with a bit of fresh pepper from a Fletcher’s Mill peppermill.

Another big feature of this time of year is root vegetables. Let’s pair citrus and root vegetables for a match made in heaven, this salad is featured on a Jars Tourron plate in Samoa (from Didriks). We love the earthy greens and bright citrus together.

Lastly why not end your meal with another bright infusion? We adored this glazed grapefruit cake adapted from a Saveur receipe with brûléed citrus – it offered bright flavors and highlighted the fruit in just the right ways!
