Local Root Knife Sharpening Service Terms and Conditions
Effective Date: 11/11/2025
Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before submitting your knives for sharpening service. By scheduling an appointment and dropping off your knives, you, the Client, agree to be bound by these terms with Local Root (the “Service Provider”).
1. Scope of Service and Pricing Agreement
1.1 Scope of Work
Local Root provides professional edge sharpening services. Unless explicitly agreed upon in writing beforehand, this service includes only the restoration of the primary cutting edge. Any additional services (e.g., repair, polishing) are not included.
1.2 Pricing Structure
The Client agrees that the final invoice will be calculated based on the Service Provider’s assessment of the knives dropped off and the rates published in the official Local Root Scheduling Page.
The complete, up-to-date schedule of services and corresponding prices is available here: Local Root Sharpening Rates.
Payment for all services is due in full upon completion of work and prior to the pickup of the items.
2. Right of Refusal and Condition of Knives
2.1 Right to Refuse Service
Local Root reserves the absolute right to refuse to sharpen any knife for any reason, including but not limited to:
The knife is deemed by the Service Provider to be damaged beyond reasonable repair, too compromised, or not possible to sharpen safely.
The knife is judged to be unsafe to work with (e.g., loose handles, excessive rust).
The knife is excessively dirty, contaminated, or unsanitary.
If a knife is refused, the Client will be immediately notified, and no sharpening fee will be charged for that specific item.
2.2 Client Responsibility
The Client confirms that all knives submitted are clean and free of food debris and are transported in a safe, appropriate protective covering (e.g., sheath, towel, box).
3. Limitations of Liability and Risk
3.1 Acknowledgment of Risk
The Client understands that knife sharpening involves mechanical grinding and cutting. While extreme care is taken, the Client acknowledges that, on rare occasions, minor cosmetic changes such as light scratches or abrasions near the cutting edge may occur as a normal part of the process.
3.2 Limitation of Liability
In the event of accidental damage or loss of the Client’s property while in the possession of Local Root, the Service Provider’s liability shall be strictly limited to the cost of the sharpening service for that item or the actual cash replacement value of the item, whichever is lower, up to a maximum cap of $150.00 USD per knife.
Local Root is not responsible for the sentimental value of any item, nor for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
4. Pickup and Abandoned Property Policy
4.1 Turnaround Time
The Service Provider will provide an estimated turnaround time at the time of drop-off. This time is an estimate only and is not guaranteed.
4.2 Required Pickup
The Client will be notified immediately upon completion of the sharpening service. The Client must pick up their finished items within 30 days of this notification date.
4.3 Abandoned Property
If the Client fails to pick up their knives and remit payment within 30 days of the completion notification, Local Root will make reasonable attempts to contact the Client. If the items remain uncollected after this 30-day period, the items will be deemed abandoned property. Local Root reserves the right to dispose of, sell, or donate the abandoned property without liability or further compensation to the Client.
By submitting items for sharpening service, the Client confirms they have read, understood, and agreed to all the terms and conditions outlined above.
